Office 2000 in easy steps is an easy to follow guide to the latest Office software to be released by Microsoft. The book is separated into five sections, the first of which covers features common to the Office 2000 modules. Here the reader learns to create new documents, launch and use the New dialog, work with templates and work with Wizards. The reader is taught how to open and save Office 2000 and Internet documents, publish to the Internet, edit in Internet Explorer and use the Office HELP system. Also covered here is the Office Assistant, the Shortcut bar, Quick File Switching, repairing errors and collect and paste. The next chapter is dedicated to Word 2000. Instruction is provided for entering text, sending e-mail, using the different view options and changing zoom levels. The reader learns how to format text and paragraphs with instruction on changing font and type, aligning paragraphs, paragraph borders and fills, and working with text. The reader is also taught how to search for, and replace, text, work with headers and footers, insert bookmarks and hyperlinks, undo and redo, and check spelling and grammar. Further areas covered in this section are inserting, editing, rescaling, bordering and cropping pictures, page set-up, using Print Preview, printer set-up, printing and customised printing. Excel 2000 is covered in the next chapter. Beginning with the Excel screen, the author teaches how to enter and modify data, work within cell ranges, move around in worksheets and switch between worksheets, view several worksheets and rearrange worksheet windows. The reader then learns how to insert functions and formulas, amend row and column sizes and insert cells, rows and columns. Then, the reader is taught to use AutoFill, change number formats, fonts and styles, border and shade cells, use AutoFormat and the Format Painter. Further areas covered in this section are find and replace operations, creating charts, inserting pictures, page setup, launching Print Preview, and printing worksheet data. The next chapter looks at PowerPoint 2000, beginning with an introduction to its screen and the AutoContent Wizard. The reader learns how to use the slide views, customise the slide structure, add text to slides, and format text. Also covered here is applying colour schemes, using Format Painter, moving through presentations, inserting and deleting slides, and inserting pictures and hyperlinks. Finally in this section, the reader learns how to print and run a presentation and also how to run a presentation in Internet Explorer. The final chapter covers Outlook 2000. It starts with an introduction to the Outlook 2000 screen and using the Outlook bar. Then the reader is taught how to use the Day, Week and Month Calendar, work with the Tasks folder and also the Contacts folder. Finally in this section the reader learns how to compose, read and reply to e-mail, send and receive e-mail, and surf the Internet. In less than 200 pages this book covers all the essential features of Office 2000.
