Book Summary
Chaim Herzog was an officer in the British army during World War II. He helped to liberate the German concentration camps & was one of the first Allied witnesses to the atrocities of the Holocaust. Herzog returned to Palestine as a Zionist dedicated to the formation of the State of Israel. Through his eyes we see that process: from his days in the underground movement to his rise to the rank of General in the Israeli army & his involvement in creating Israel's intelligence agency. In the 1970s Herzog was appointed Israel's ambassador to the U.N. In 1983 he was elected Pres. of Israel, a position he held for 10 years. Illustrated.
